Old Paths in Portrait

“Every soul belongs to God and exists by His pleasure. God being Who and What He is, and we being who and what we are, the only thinkable relation between us is one of full lordship on His part and complete submission on ours. We own Him every honor that is in our power to give Him. Our everlasting grief lies in giving Him anything less.”

-A.W. Tozer American Minister 1897-1963

“With Harps And Viols

With harps and with viols,
there stand a great throng
in the presence of Jesus,
and sing this new song.

All these once were sinners,
defiled in his sight,
now arrayed in pure garments
in praise they unite.

He maketh the rebel
a priest and a king,
He hath bought us and taught us
this new song to sing.

How helpless and hopeless
we sinners had been,
If he never had loved us
till cleansed from our sin.

Aloud in his praises
our voices shall ring,
so that others believing,
this new song shall sing.

Refrain:
Unto him who hath loved us
and washed us from sin,
unto him be the glory forever. Amen.”

Old Paths in Portrait

I Know Whom I Have Believed 2 Timothy 1:12

“I know not why God’s wondrous grace
To me He hath made known,
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love
Redeemed me for His own.

I know not how this saving faith
To me He did impart,
Nor how believing in His Word
Wrought peace within my heart.

I know not how the Spirit moves,
Convincing men of sin,
Revealing Jesus through the Word,
Creating faith in Him.

I know not what of good or ill
May be reserved for me,
Of weary ways or golden days,
Before His face I see.

I know not when my Lord may come,
At night or noonday fair,
Nor if I walk the vale with Him,
Or meet Him in the air.

Refrain:
But “I know Whom I have believed,
And am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed
Unto Him against that day.”

-Daniel Whittle American Hymnist 1840-1901

Mission Africa Update March 14, 2019

In Uganda see our recent communications online at: https://missionafricajk.blogspot.ug/.

In other countries also see our communications at: https://www.missionafricajk.net.
Friends: Our Updates are sent to instruct, encourage, edify and act as a help in prayer. We appreciate your receiving them, your replies, comments and prayer requests.
May the Lord bless you friend!
Teaching and Prayer for Africa:
May our Lord, who has blessed us with salvation in Christ help us to better understand “Of The Church” from the London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689: “The members of these churches are saints by calling, visibly manifesting and evidencing (in and by their profession and walking) their obedience unto that call of Christ; and do willingly consent to walk together, according to the appointment of Christ; giving up themselves to the Lord, and one to another, by the will of God, in professed subjection to the ordinance of the Gospel.”
Edited from Operation World, Seventh Edition: About the nation of Guinea: “”The Christian population is still a small minority and concentrated in Conakry and the southwest forests.” (Guinea is 88.33 % Muslim, 6.90 % Ethnoreligionist and 4.47 % Christian). Over 37 peoples are still unreached; pray for their evangelization. The Church suffered serious numerical setbacks in the late 1900’s and early 2000’s. Some established denominations shrank significantly, and evangelism and church planting slowed-probably due to nominal Christians falling away. Pray for believers who will persevere, and pray against the enemy who seeks to destroy these young or weak Christians before they can grow.” Jim ministered in Conakry, Guinea last month-pray for conversions and movement in evangelism, discipleship and church planting.

Pray for dear Lillie who had some of her intestines removed in January-for good health and to be disease free; pray for her husband John who is taking such good care of his dear wife. Lillie wrote: “I had cancer surgery on 1/31/2019, God is keeping me. John has been a blessing. They remove 10 inches of intestines and that was the mass in the Colon. Keep us in your prayers. Pray again for peace and an end of the violence and killing in South Sudan, DRC (Kivu), Syria, Yemen and Somalia. Thoughts by A.W. Tozer:

“The Immutability of God

The immutability of God appears in its most perfect beauty when viewed against the mutability of men. In God no change is possible; in men change is impossible to escape. Neither the man is fixed nor his world, but he and it are in constant flux. Each man appears for a little while to laugh and weep, to work and play, and then go to make room for those who shall follow him in the never-ending cycle.

God never changes moods or cools off in His affections or loses enthusiasm.

The truth is that there is not and can never be anything outside of the nature of God which can move Him in the least degree. All God’s reasons come from within His uncreated being. Nothing has entered the being of God from eternity, nothing has been removed, and nothing has been changed.”

Knowledge of God

The Christian is strong or weak depending upon how closely he has cultivated the knowledge of God.

…the man who would know God must give time to Him.

God can be known satisfactorily only as we devote time to Him.

God will respond to our efforts to know Him.

Love of God

If literally God is love, then literally love is God and we are all duty bound to worship love as the only God there is. If love is equal to God then God is only equal to love, and God and love are identical. Thus we destroy the concept of personality in God and deny outright all His attributes save one, and that we substitute for God.”
